The End

Oh, hey guys. Just to let you know This Is The End, sort of. Because The Bird Song has moved over to it's new home, here

I do the same stuff, I still ramble on. It's pretty cool.

To be fair, I don't know if you can actually see this because the bird song url is now on a redirect to the new site. So yeah.

Come and see me over on the new site, I miss you guys. :)

Some Changes...

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally time to get up, shake off the dust and move on...

Five Favourites

Er, long time no blog. I hadn't intended to go so long without blogging, but I just hadn't been feeling like putting finger to keyboard. I don't know what it is, maybe I'm still suffering from the post-election slump. Heh. Yes, I voted Labour. Yes I'm absolutely gutted...

Regardless, here are a few things that I've been enjoying over the last few weeks...

Pomegranate

I could wax lyrical about many cream cleansers. They are my overall preference for "skin cleansing" as they (usually) not only cleanse but soothe and hydrate too...

Spring That Feels Like Summer...

I'll warn you now. It's about to get real picture heavy. If you dislike animals, go look away. I promise I'll be back to beauty blogging soon...

Five Favourites

I really enjoyed doing the 'five favourites' post that I did a little while ago. It makes a nice change from being all "OMG MAKEUP YAY!"

So, I hope you don't mind but I think I'll continue on with it, I know at one point or another I will do another beauty monthly favourites but you know, I'm digging this.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy

I find gel nail polish/varnish to be somewhat of a hit and miss. Whilst some are amazing some can be a right fiddle to get on board with...

WISHLIST

Sandals // Necklace // Illuminator // Terrarium // Bed Socks

I swear to god that every summer I look at all the new sandals that come out but all I really want/need is a simple tan pair. And every year leaves me a little disappointed that I can't find the pair. So far, this H&M pair look good but still not quite what I'm after. I'm really quite fussy with my sandals that I like a sling back, preferably elasticated because a.) I'm lazy and b.) it's way more comfortable.

I've even considered Birkenstocks but I have a suspicion I'm really not 'cool' enough to pull them off.

After running out of this little gem, I've been meaning to pick up the Revlon PhotoReady SkinLights Illuminator. In peach or bronze, as I tend to use these products mixed with a primer. I just couldn't buy another of the no7 version, even though I frickin' love it - the brush at the end just makes everything so very dried up and just plain unhygienic. If it changed to just a tube? I'd buy all the stock. All of it.

Another thing I've been hankering over is bed socks. I know, we are coming into spring (its still pretty cold, I kind of feel we are still in winter, by the way,) but I need some new ones and a cheeky order may have been placed. I just can't stand having freezing cold feet. Bring on summer (in which I complain that I am too hot, yay!)

Since breaking two of my planters for my cacti (one a terrarium, one a fishbowl style) I've been lurking the UO website as they have some reasonably priced ones on there that look amazing. But honestly, we are all so clumsy that I feel maybe I should just keep my poor cacti and succulents in the "emergency housing" pyrex glass roasting dish they are currently in (I'm not even kidding. Nope.)

Lastly. Turquoise. ALL THE TURQUOISE. Maybe I'm biased because it's my birthstone or whatever, but my god - turquoise with gold is just it for me. I need all the rings and necklaces, cheers.

What's on your wishlist?

Sophie.

A Cleansing Butter?

I know, I know. The title is misleading even if the picture is not. I haven't been washing my face with Lurpak or Clover, don't worry...

Insta-Update

Since I don't do 'this week' style posts any more and that means I've been a bit lax on fitting in my instagram snaps anywhere on the blog; I know it's not to everyone's tastes - but you can always skip over them.

You can follow me here. There's loads of my animals and food. So there's that...

Make-up Stash Detox

For the longest time now I've had an overwhelming amount of make-up products. Like seriously can't quite reach because of the stupid malm dressing table drawer won't pull out all the way and I can't reach THAT mascara! It's been a long time coming, but I had to have a clean out...

Five Favourites

It has been a literal age since I last posted a 'favourites' post of any sort. There is a particular reason - I've been using and loving the same stuff for ages...

Since my operation I have actually had a swell of confidence in going out bare-faced. What started out as "I literally look like death, feel like death and I'm definitely not applying any make up for going shopping - so if anyone questions me of my appearance I shall guilt them by saying I've just had major surgery, you ass," soon morphed into 'actually my skin looks pretty amazing, laters concealer!'

Spring Red

Let's talk about Spring nails shall we? Let's face it, so far all I've seen are more pastels I can shake a stick at. And that's cool. I love a good pastel blue nail. Mint green? I'm down.

But it's same-y.

Your New Best Friend

Okay. This might not be new to you, but on a recent lurk around my local Boots, praying they had more than just Batiste for dry shampoo offerings - I spied this Toni&Guy Casual Matt Texture Dry Shampoo. New in the ridiculously small line up of offerings in the small branch.

From the same 'casual' line as their beloved sea salt spray, I bought two. Because I was that sure of my purchase. And it was on offer. Same thing, really.

Give Yourself A Break...

I'm going to blame the school date system for this. Burn out. The slump. It's not quite spring, in fact it's still snowing. When can I buy pretty sandals and feel sane in the choice for doing so?

I've always felt September was the life-deciding month. Remember the days when your hardest choice was what new pencil case to choose from WHSmith?

Because I've noticed the pressure people put on themselves at the beginning of a new year. They become obsessed how this year is going to be 'the one.' Well, great. Make it happen, if you can. But you're only human. And March don't half feel like one massive hump day before Spring...

Upping Your Brush Cleansing Game...

Call me a changed woman, but I'm really not falling for beauty related hypes these days. I've started to hold off from impulse buying, thinking thoughtfully about what it is I'm buying and also holding off for more reviews to see if it's worth the hype in the first place...

How does this relate to the title? Well read on...

Remember last year when everyone seemed to harp on about the Sigma brush cleansing gloves? And then the subsequent dupes, notably all over eBay? Well I didn't really get it. It wasn't an exciting product to me and so I just completely forgot about it.

Fast forward to January. I was purchasing some magnets for one of my palettes that needed a quick fix, and lo - this little beauty was in my recommended feed on eBay (yes, I'm a sucker,) and for the first time in an age - I gave in to that little hyper niggle. I wanted to see if these silicone cleansing mitts actually did improve the cleansing of my brushes.

The Brush Egg is essentially a mini brush cleansing mitt. All for a pretty reasonable 99p.

So far - I'm eating humble pie, this is one of those hypes I'd wish I'd given into a little sooner. With this I can give a much more thorough cleanse of my brushes without damaging them, without adding anything extra to the therapeutic yet mildly time consuming routine. The tiny size means it's perfect for travel too and doesn't look to unsightly hanging around in the bathroom.

All for under £1. Not bad at all.

Have you tried a cleansing mitt yet?

Sophie.

Divine Calm

I have mentioned it before, but I have problems sleeping. It's mostly down to my back and the overall difficulty in switching off from the day and I've tried all sorts to ease into the land of slumber...
